Sublative Rejuvenation

Fractional radiofrequency can be used for skin tightening, rejuvenation and acne scarring. The technique also offers a safe alternative for darker skin types, writes Dr David Goldberg.

Fractional ablative and non-ablative devices have a clear success rate, they obviously work. By manipulating the parameters on each device, practitioners can go superficially or deeply depending on the indication. But fractional radio frequency (RF), also known as sublative rejuvenation, works in a different way and may provide an alternative treatment option.

With all ablative and non-ablative fractional laser devices, there is a lot of delivered superficial energy; this is the nature of laser energy. This dissipates as the chromophore absorbs the energy, so you end up with a cone-shaped profile.

Non-Surgical Cosmetics Top the Million Mark

The number of non-surgical procedures performed in the UK has risen impressively from 950,000 in 2008 to 1.1 million in 2009, according to Mintel. Furthermore, non-surgical procedures are now estimated to account for more than nine in ten (92%) of all cosmetic surgery procedures performed, taking 74% of market value. Surgical procedures have grown by almost 9% between 2008 and 2010 with value increasing by almost 30% over the same two year period.
